Bill Wells
Candidate for City Commissioner
Trust and Accountability are two keys to good governance. The citizens of Covington need to see how their tax dollars are being spent and be able to question their elected officials. Transparency in city business is the key to honest city government. As your Commissioner I made contributions to maintaining your ability as a citizen to trust city hall and know what we were doing with your taxes in two meaningful ways.
I led the successful effort to develop our city’s Open Government, which allowed the public to use the internet to see how and where their tax dollars were being spent. However since 2019 Open Government has been deleted and the public can no longer easily access their tax dollars. As your Commissioner I will prioritize reinstating the public’s access to your tax dollars. Transparency is a key aspect of building trust between city hall and our citizens.

Your elected officials should be actively engaged in the life of our community, attending community association meetings and listening to the concerns of our citizens. I have been collaborating with our neighborhood associations for over 20 years, both as a member, officer, and elected official. I have been active and constructively engaged in working with our citizens to make our community better. This engagement is another way to build trust and increase accountability. Citizens know I listen to them.
