Candidate for City Commissioner

Police and Fire safety depends upon equipment that is well maintained and replaced regularly. Waiting for emergencies and breakdowns to occur before replacing vehicles and equipment was the way the city made replacement decisions until I recommended a fleet management program. Enabling the city to regularly replace vehicles in a fashion that saved money and kept our fleet and equipment at prime operating condition. Saving money and lives.

The SAFER Grant (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) is a federal government program through FEMA, designed to provide funding directly to fire departments to increase or maintain the number of trained,  "front line" firefighters in a community. As a Commissioner I recommended the city apply for this grant and, as a result, Covington received almost $1.4 million (2016) to hire 8 fire fighters.

In my first two years as a Commissioner I supported purchasing 41 new Police vehicles, three new fire trucks, and four new ambulances. Funding for basic city services improves the safety and security of our community and in conjunction with the with fleet management plan, ensures we save money as we stay ahead of the curve for renewing our safety vehicles and equipment and are not making purchases only when a crisis occurs.

Public Safety has always been my priority as a city Commissioner and neighborhood leader. Public safety is the first priority of all city governments. Here are some issues I addressed as an elected official related to public safety:
